“There needs to be a new king crowned”.
The words of BAMMA matchmaker Jude Samuel on the announcement of the first set of title fights for BAMMA 32 in Dublin this November.
Interim World Flyweight champion Andy ‘Taz’ Young (11-8) is set to meet the recently crowned Lonsdale Flyweight Champion, Daniel Barez (8-4), who took his title back to Spain following a win over Ryan ‘Chaos’ Curtis at BAMMA 30 in Dublin this past July.
Speaking on the announcement, Samuel added “Andy Young’s last bout was an impressive performance against what many considered to be the biggest “menace” to the flyweight division, in the shape England’s Dominique Wooding. Daniel Barez booked himself as the challenger off the back of a spirited and entertaining performance against a credible and threatening opponent in Ryan Curtis back in July. With the obvious clash of styles and pace that Young and Barez fight at, this is sure to be an entertaining bout that will see a new champion emerge.”
Fighting out of Next Generation NI, Young has a great chance to cement his position at the top of the flyweight pile though a win for Barez (and all his wins come via stoppage), sending the title back to Spain, would make for an interesting development as BAMMA continue to grow their broadcasting partners in greater Europe.
Either way, it’s got all the hallmarks of a great scrap.
On the same night, Richie Smullen (3-0-1) will look to pry the Lonsdale Lightweight title away from the hands of Tim Barnett (5-0) in what should be a fully-charged bout.
BAMMA 32 takes place on Friday 10 November at Dublin’s 3Arena, ahead of Bellator 186. Check for tickets here.
