Injury rules ‘Magic’ Myles Price out of BAMMA 30

Injury strikes for Kilkenny’s Myles Price mid fight camp for BAMMA 30 ruling him off the card for July in Dublin.

The local quota of fighters on the BAMMA 30 card for 7 July at the 3 Arena has been reduced by one with ‘Magic’ Myles Price forced to withdraw from the card due to injury.

Originally scheduled to fight Philip ‘The Honeybadger’ Mulpeter in a lightweight bout, an injury picked up at the recent Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Irish Open means another spell on the sidelines for the Kilkenny man.

Having missed BAMMA 26 due to surgery and a Lonsdale Lightweight title shot against Rhys McKee at BAMMA 28 earlier this year again through injury, Price saw the positives, joking he was in something of a “Dominick Cruz” spell.

The Team Ryano fighter outlined the situation to KCLR on Tuesday.

“I felt really good in my first match, against a strong opponent. I used to roll with him, David Medek, top dude, and a tough opponent. I went in, did well, won out that fight.

In the second match, unfortunately – and this is a thing I wasn’t really fully aware of myself as I haven’t been active in Jiu-jitsu competitions as of late –

I’ve never had a Jiu-jitsu injury before, this was one of those things where I’d go in to get rid of the competition jitters as I haven’t competed in the last year – personal life, opening the gym, having a few injuries.

I’m going through a bit of a Domninick Cruz phase at the minute, these niggling injuries that I need to pre-hab and get through.

Coming into the second match, I thought ‘lovely now, I can see that gold ahead of me’. Next thing, yer man grabbed my sleeves and – basically, jumping guard is when someone grabs part of your kimono, jumps up and tries to wrap their legs around your waist.

As opposed to wrapping his legs around by waist, he wrapped them around my knee.”

Stablemate Mick ‘Bash’ Brennan, also on the BAMMA card, added “obviously when he wrapped them around his knee, when it’s jumping guard, all his weight is going on that leg. And there’s only one way that leg is going – the opposite way”

To be sure, when asked does it rule him out of BAMMA, Price replied “Obviously it does. It’s not as bad as we first anticipated, it’s a grade two tear which requires six to eight weeks at least (of rest and rehab) and I’ll find out tomorrow about the grade of the tear to my meniscus.”

“If I don’t need surgery or anything like that, I’ll be back on BAMMA or another big name promotion ASAP. It definitely rules me out of BAMMA 30, unfortunately. I’m going through a bit of a bad spell at the moment (with the injuries) but I will be back, making a statement, very quickly.”

While Price is ruled out of July 7’s event in the 3 Arena, the preparation continues for Brennan and team mate Andy ‘The Carlow Kid’ Murphy.

Brennan faces Decky ‘The Diamond’ Dalton in a featherweight match up – both fighters looking to snap losing streaks on paper – while Murphy takes on SBG prospect Dylan Logan.

Tickets for BAMMA 30: Philpott Vs. Walsh takes place at the 3Arena, Dublin, Friday 7th July 2017. Tickets are on sale now from
