The Carlow Kid, Andy Murphy is ready to get back in the cage, and he’ll be facing Newcastle’s Joe Calboutin when he does.
MTK MMA announced the signing of Joe Calbutin to to their growing stable of young fighters earlier this year.
Age 20, he’s gone 3-0 in the amateur MMA ranks, as well as 2-0 at Muay Thai and a further 5-0 boxing.
“Joe has some serious power in his hands and his undefeated record speaks for itself, I am truly excited to watch his next fight in the cage and look forward to see this young man go far with MTK MMA supporting him all the way,” says Kieran Keddle, MTK MMA Head of Operations.
Murphy getting his career back on track
For Andy Murphy (1-1), it’s a welcome return to the cage.
Shipping a debut loss to Richie Smullen (3-0-1) in September 2016, Murphy bounced back with his first pro win over Stephen Kilifin at BAMMA 28 last February.
‘The Carlow Kid’ was getting set to face SBG’s Dylan Logan at BAMMA 30 last July but for a medical issue to rule him out. It’s been a long road back, but he’s raring to get back to action in the pro ranks.
“I’m just really excited to getting back in there and getting my career back on track”, said Murphy in speaking to MMACharge.com on Saturday.
“It’s been a frustrating year but one of immense growth and also a new found appreciation for truly loving what I do. A setback is just an opportunity to make a comeback.”
“It’s time”, he says.
For Murphy, the year has been well spent. While he continues to train with fellow pro fighters ‘Magic’ Myles Price and Mick Brennan in Kilkenny, he’s recently opened Team Ryano Wexford to train the next generation of mixed martial artists in the south east.
Calboutin v Murphy is set for The Park Hotel, Grand Parade, Tynemouth (Newcastle) on 21 July. Tickets are available on +44 7815 687 670.
